This endless debate has already been covered by nearly every other outlet imaginable. Surely not here too?  :)

If you are building a race/track car, definitely don't buy cheap parts.

Title should read "buy parts intended for specified use".

There is nothing wrong with cheap wheels, the failure of cheap rims in motorsports environments happens for a reason. Doesn't make them bad, they just aren't designed for it.

It can happen to any wheels due to defects in the casting that aren't caught ... no one is perfect.

Moral of the story:  Check your wheels every now and then .... and replace your hub bolts every couple of years (or if they've been over-torqued).

When I bought my Civic earlier this year it came with some 949Racing 6ULs. They were ugly so I stripped the paint off to repaint them before fresh tires, and I found a hairline crack where one spoke meets the barrel. Never would have known otherwise and I'm sure that wheel would have failed under heavy load eventually.

Definitely keep and eye on your wheels especially if you are using them for competition.
