It has been a pleasure in being your host for the past 16+ years.

Truly, it has been fun being part of this community, upholding an invisible service-level agreement, and all without out real resources.

Thank you and don't be shy if you see me on or off at the track!

Thanks for your work over the years, Brando!  How do you thank someone for the amount of work you put into this?

Thinking back I think this forum was the life-blood of the club for many years.  We posted our events, celebrations and whatnot on here for many years.  The forum changed the club for the better and caused it to progress.

And, finally, in the words of an old employer and colleage of mine many years ago "All things must pass away. ... but that means the bad too!".

See you for a coolie some time!

Sad day. Thanks again for the years of support Brando - but may the good times at the track live on for a long time yet!

Dishonesty promotes corruption.

  • Keep the organization honest by questioning if actions taken are reasonably prudent
  • Fiduciary duty
  • Governance
  • Operation Transparency
The Calgary Sports Car Club constitution (mission) *
Quote
TO FOSTER THE APPRECIATION OF MOTORSPORTS, TO AFFORD OPPORTUNITIES TO ITS MEMBERS OF ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE OF ALL ASPECT OF MOTORSPORTS AND AUTOMOBILES IN GENERAL AND TO PROMOTE THE INTERESTS OF MOTORSPORTS (Application for formation under The Societies Act, June 28, 1956)

Societies Regulation Financial Reporting

Providing false information in a solicitation or having incomplete or inaccurate records could result in a charitable organization’s registration being suspended or canceled, as well as prosecution under the Charitable Fund-raising Act.

Quote from: servicealberta.gov.ab.ca
Confirmation that a society remains in good standing, their bylaws, current officers, and annual reports are all available at any authorized Registry office in Alberta for a small fee. Reviewing these is often a good first step in resolving any conflict, particularly if the bylaws include any provision for dispute resolution. Obviously if any criminal activity is suspected, notably theft or fraud, then local police services should be contacted without delay.

What is the difference between a director and an officer?
A director is a person in charge of managing, or supervising the management of the activities and internal affairs of a society. Directors are elected by the membership subject to the bylaws. Officers are those directors who have specific roles under the Society Act. They are president, VP, secretary, and treasurer. They are often referred to as the executive.

What is a conflict of interest?
A conflict of interest is a situation in which an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests that may be incompatible, where acting upon one interest could compromise another. A conflict of interest includes not only a material interest but the perception of an interest. In the legal context, this term is used to describe a situation in which a person has a duty to act in the best interests of an organization or party, yet they may have personal interests that conflict with that duty. For example, a board director voting on an increase in salary for a family member who works for the society. The new Societies Act requires societies to keep records of any conflicts of interest. You can find a policy in our resources page on the lawfornonprofits.ca website.

When I joined CSCC in 1998 it was a multi disciplinary motor-sport club. I formed many friendships through the CSCC community. It is my belief that you take pride in joining an organization when it reflects your personal values, your expectations, such as, honesty, respect, decency, and hardworking.

Sadly, I see no resemblance of the core mission. In its place I see, secrecy, tribalism, and bullying. This isn't the organization I remember. It is not us versus them mentality between the disciplines or clubs versus clubs.

Change takes time and over the years this club, the people, have wandered away from the mission statement and the aftermath is clear. This club is no longer a multi discipline motor-sport club; it is now a one disciple club that is looked after by a self interest group.

Be true to the mission statement.

All forums are now locked. It has been a humbling experience and a honour to serve the past 16.5 years as your host and social media administrator. Thank you and godspeed.

As of writing no signing officer has contacted me for any handover material as of April 3, 2018. A reasonable amount of time has been provided and as such I am no longer available for any discussion of any length.

This is what I still have on hand:
  • Various club documents collected through the CSCC postal mail box
  • Postal mail box key
  • Key FOB to Clubhouse
  • Password to accounts created during my time as President of CSCC

There was no signing officer present to accept any documentation during my resignation on April 3, 2018. There has been no contact from any signing officer as of this post; 09/10/2018.
* I have been in discussion with Shawn B and he has graciously volunteered to accept these documents and will provide them at the CSCC business meeting when he is able to go
* I have not met up with Shawn yet. I should be able to schedule a meetup before the end of Sept 2018

  • Passwords and Accounts: User accounts and passwords that I setup on behalf of CSCC during my time of office. As stated. No signing officer from CSCC has contacted me directly and as such I will only provided passwords and account information with an official letter of intent from signing officer(s) / executive(s). The letter of intent must also include meeting minutes to show your elected position.

The CSCC still owes me personally for expenses of $153 to which the CSCC Treasurer has consistently provided excuses in not being able to provide funding. Disappointing.

Update 09/15/2018 10:45 PM: PAID

To my knowledge from Dec 14, 2017 - April 3, 2018, I was the only signing officer to submit expense reports. There are also no records to my knowledge of any previous expense reports or meeting minutes available. As well, it is my understanding there are no current policies and procedures to reflect fiduciary duties or budgetary approvals.

Defamation:
Libel and slander, known broadly as defamation, are untrue statements made by someone that are harmful to someone else’s reputation. The statements can be about a person, business, organization, group, nation, or product that tends to hurt the person’s reputation. Also, the false statements must be made to other people, not just to the person it is about. Libel refers to written statements and slander refers to oral statements. Under the law, both are grounds for a civil lawsuit.

Bullying can be verbal (name-calling, put-downs, threats), homophobic bullying, transphobic bullying, social (exclusion, gossip, ganging up), physical (hitting, damaging property) or cyberbullying (using the computer to harass or threaten).
