Test and Tune -Update:lot unavailable!
« on: April 21, 2007, 12:50:59 PM »
UPDATE:Unfortunately, the Penhold lot is not available on either the weekend of May 12-13, or the 5th-6th, so it looks like this is a no-go. Sorry everyone, I was really looking forward to it myself, and appreciate everyone's interest and willingness to pitch in. We'll make sure to book early for next year...

Ambrose had suggested we try for a test and tune at Penhold prior to the start of the season and schools. Saturday May 12 is looking like the best date, and although I haven't gotten confirmation from the property manager that the lot is available (I left a message), I was told before that it's rarely rented on weekends, so I'm going to assume it is. I'm prepared to go ahead with this, if we can get say at least a dozen people to commit, at a price of $25. I would like to have someone besides myself commit to designing a course (pretty casual for this sort of thing, but we should have some idea what we're going to lay out). As well, we will need a way to tow the club trailer with it's load of cones up there, as I don't have a vehicle with a hitch, and we'll need some room for timing equipment as well somewhere (or, if someone is towing up a mod car, for example, maybe club gear could be piled in the back of the pickup).
Reply here to say ya want it :D

I will bite - I will design the coures for the test and tune. Might be a bit rusty tho.

I would like to know how many "big" cones do we have now? I am getting old... :x

I'll tow up the trailer if ambrose lets me co-drive his car, otherwise I'll drive up my spyder and attend, but I can't tow the cone trailer up if I take my spyder.

In response to Ambrose' question re: how many large cones: I'm not sure just now - I'll have to get the trailer and other gear from Neil. I know there are ~50 new large cones at the clubhouse waiting to be rotated into active duty. 200 or so seems to ring a bell, but I'm suspicious of the round number.

Edit: appears I can reply now in this thread - and thanks to whoever merged the two. If anyone has a problem replying, pls pm me.

I'm interewsted and will help design or setup the course as needed.  If you are needed to tow the trailer Warren, you are welcome to share my car for the event.

Well, we seem to have the mechanics looked after - now, a few more bodies would be nice. What I will do, is phone and confirm the lot tomorrow anyway, on the assumption this will be a go, although I won't actually put it up on karelo for registration for a couple days (I'm travelling on Tuesday and Wed. anyway).

I'd be in, but I'll be on vacation for most of May and will be out of town.  Oh well, I guess I'll be rusty for the first event!

$25?  That's cheap.
Count me in I suppose.

What are the directions to this place?   I haven't checked these message boards in 4 months.  I never heard of this lot before.

From the Evo School thread:

Directions:
The School will be held at the former CFB Penhold, at the NE end of the tarmac immediately adjoining Red Deer Regional Airport by the Air Cadet Hanger and Harvard Park Self Storage, and NE of the the Red Deer Truss yard, 37 Ave and 26 St. As one drives in to Red Deer Regional Airport, turn just before the red fire hall, proceeding straight through the old base until you reach a stop sign. Left at the stop will take you to the hanger and tarmac area.

Please see update at top of thread. Looks like we won't be able to do this. My apologies, apparently the lot isn't so rarely used on weekends as I was led to believe, or at least at this time of year, when everyone is doing motorcycle schools
