Good job
Yes, there is Autocross. I was there, its nice but its not enough for rally training. Slide thru corner on 60km/h and 160km/h is a big difference.

If nothing else think about you own safety. What will happen if you crash at 160km/h while trying to improve your skill. We've all seen the rally crashes at those speeds and sometimes the occupants don't survive. Those cars have full roll cages. Occupants with race seats, 5 point harnesses, Helmets, Hans Device. And a very quick Paramedic response. There are reasons all those things are required. And those are PRO rally drivers who already have amazing skill. Yes I'm sure we would all love more chances to play. And if I win the Lottery we would see a Rally school locally  with many rally roads to practice very soon after. But until that day we need to stay within what is sanctioned unless we want to shut down this growing sport locally. Then it will be back to just watching it in videos.

I like how Germans manage Nurburgring. As I know it works like "public" road but its one-way and there are no pedestrians and no speed limits. You pay about 50 EUR and you can drive or you can race, its up to you.
I think its possible to do the same here, on roads like Hunter Walley. If government would like to promote autosport its not much expensive and not that difficult... actually they can even earn some money.

If you compare what we have for rallies with the EU, we'll loose every time. The size of our country is a killer and travel is a significant part of any team's budget. (in land area, Alberta is slightly larger than Ukraine and has less that 10% of the population)
I know, I know.
I even don't ask for special stages specially designed for rally. I just wish we have here some dual-purpose roads. Like public road on weekdays that become a race road on weekends. Alberta government even can make money on each of such road every weekend.

BTW I heard Ferrary club has such road somewhere near Calgary. They close this road sometimes for racing.

buy the older celica , that 1 is much stronger build, less hp but that can be helped ,  or an old wrx, there is a guy in Edmonton selling a caged st 185
H'm, interesting Rolling Eyes But I would prefer old WRX (As I know 1996 WRX has about 260 hp and its 200kg lighter than new WRX or my celica) .
Actually I just published advertising for my car...

G2 golfs can do well in the regional championship and would be much less to run than AWD cars!

Thank you for the links. I think Eagle Talon can be good for me (yeah, I lowe AWD turbo charged cars), its not expensive and its ready to go (may be)
But I have more questions (may be a lot more questions) so I don't want to continue off topic posts here (moderator will be angree soon).

What forum should I use for discussion about rally car? Gneral Technical? General Rally?

or you could start a thread here http://cscc.speedracer.ca/forums/index.php/board,21.0.html

The Talon is pretty much ready to go. They had a small problem at their last event, but nothing serious.
If you want to build skills and learn what you need to learn to be really fast - buy the golf.

just curious ... do you know what problem they had?  (I'm thinking preventative maintenance here for my car)

He's right.  But I'd add, buy whatever car will get you into rallying.  Worry about learning to be fast later.

I don't remember you setting fast time of the day at WAX (Winter AutoX). When you can then I would suggest that it may "not be enough"!

In Alex's defense.
The skills needed to do well at WAX do not translate to doing well in stage rally.
I'd suggest they are actually further apart than solo2 and road racing.

Shift linkage I believe.

You're also absolutely right about not worrying about being fast at the beginning.

I disagree!

Both WAX and Solo 2 teach car control and car placement! They reward focus. All these are attributes that are needed in any motor sport.
They do not teach the co-driver interaction, dealing with traffic etc but seat time is seat time and car control is car control!
