Lets make a thread that people can post their pictures and videos in:
http://www.youtube.com/user/hitempguy
Uploaded about 1/5 of the videos we took, we do have plenty more we can get people if they want. No editing or anything done. Jeff might put all of the best clips together with some editing and what not.
Congrats to everyone, especially Tony for his 2nd place! I'm extremely happy all of the new guys finished without incident, hopefully we'll see you out again

I have video related to this rally, sort of...
Well, most of the video is about my car that was not on rally because it does not have roll cage
but video was taken on the same road, just day before. Also there are 2 cars from actual rally.

Thanks for the post.
Knowing that people are going out and goofing around on the roads that we work really hard to get and keep permissions on is really comforting. This is particularly bad as you went up and exercised your youthful exuberance on the same day that we were out doing recce - and already had a microscope on our activities.
This kind of activity on some of the roads we use would cost us road permissions permanently.
If you like the idea of rallying in general, and rallying around Calgary in general, then grow-up and don't do things that might cost us our roads.
Rally is a probably the most fun you can have in a car - when you know the roads are controlled and that you have a safety network supporting you.

Ya I recognize that Celica, was too impatient to follow me on the road and left me
no choice but to pull over and pass, I guess he had previous knowledge of the road
and felt the need to push me.
We have issues securing a paved parking lot for Autox, I can't imagine the amount of
work that goes into closing sections of roads for a weekend.
You are representing the CSCC when you are anywhere near that road during an event.

Sorry if I did something wrong but I don't understand the problem.. I was driving after 14:00 when rally drivers already finished recce. And I did not drive fast on "closed" corners so it should not be a problem to anybody. Why "they" can cancel permission?
>We have issues securing a paved parking lot for Autox
Why nobody (except bikers) use Chost lake?
>You are representing the CSCC when you are anywhere near that road during an event.
Ok, I understand. Will not mess around near next rally time ...

It is much less about canceling permissions than it is about not giving them in the first place.
Spectator behavior any time near an event will be directly attributed to the event 'showing people where the roads are' and 'creating a mindset of racing on public roads.'
Any competitor who had been caught during recce driving like your video shows would have been fined by the organizers and excluded from the event without refunding the entry fee. We take this sort of behavior VERY seriously. Our other rallies operate in much more sensitive areas, but that doesn't mean that these roads are remote enough to not worry about.
If event organizers see someone driving like this, we're the first on the phone to the cops.

Well said Keith.
Alex, I understand your desire to drive, but I am proof that it is easier to get into rallying than you think. I bought my Talon for $2000 US. Yes it took many hours to get it running and roadworthy, and I probably spent another $1-2000 in the process. But I was able to run in the rally ... and both me and the car finished!
And believe me, the satisfaction of driving on the closed roads
FAR
exceeds the back roads messing around sensation. The rally
wildly
exceeded my expectations in every way, I can't say enough about how worth it it is to enter a car. I can't even find an emoticon to describe it.
I also can't say enough about all the hard work and dedication the volunteers put into organizing the event, keeping us safe, and letting us race!!!
Nice car BTW Alex.
Back on topic, here's a video of my first wipe-out on the first stage of the first rally of my life:

Alex -
I respect that maybe you don't have the funds and prep in place to pro-rally yet - its a huge commitment. But as a club we have a lot of other good options and they're cheap and don't need a roll cage. One of them is March 14th... also an event out in Rocky Mountain House on March 27th.
If you need advice or want to talk about getting involved properly, just send me a pm, I'm happy to help.
I hope the negative reaction makes sense now.
From the FiA all the way down to local clubs like ours, we work really hard to provide a safe and legal way for people to go racing, in close co-operation with the communities in which we hold our events. Of course we can't support stunts like that!
There's a lot more people out in the bush than you may realize, and companies that we disrupt as well. Yeah its possible that you didn't affect anyone that day - but if one of the oil field or forestry guys came down the road and saw that and decided to report it to his superiors - we'd probably have to come up with some good explanations and convince them that we aren't contributing to that behavior. If they found the vid.... well that would be even harder.
As a volunteer on Sunday, I certainly spent some time firmly and calmly chatting with people who use the roads who would have been much happier if we just stayed away permanently. We can't afford to give them any excuses.
Besides all that, we're a good club with great people and some real talent. Come play with us and do the real stuff - you'll never regret it.

Well, I plan to cell my celica (I think its suspention is too weak for rally) and buy some old WRX, Evo or may be even STI (really old).
But my biggest concern is not a car but place and time where I can use this car. There are just several rally events per year in Alberta and BC. So I will need 100 years to become a real rally driver. There is no place and time for regular rally training
Am I wrong?
Yes, there is Autocross. I was there, its nice but its not enough for rally training. Slide thru corner on 60km/h and 160km/h is a big difference.
Yes there are rally schools, I was there as well but its 1-2 times event. While rally driver needs regular practice.
Am I wrong? Do you have secret place for regular training?
BTW: In Ukraine they have
- rally for stock cars: 13 events per year
- professional rally: 27 events per year
- plus up hill racing. plus autocross, plus regular training events, etc
There are special roads/tracks made for rally training. There are 8 jumping places (how I should say correctly in English?) on one training course.
and Ukraine is considered as "not good" country for autosport comparing to other EU countries.
Interesting how many rally events has Finland. Probably 100 events per year?

I plan to come on March 14th.
Regarding March 27th.. this is rally within speed limits, right? So, its useless for driving skills? Is it good for driver-copilot communication skills?

Ok, ok, you convinced me. I am sorry
But then again: if there are no roads for autosport then where do you practice??

The Western Canadian Rally Championship is 6 events a year, half of them based out of Calgary or Cochrane.
If you want more than that, be prepared to tow, but then you have (depending on date conflicts) Olympus and Oregon Trails, both Rally America National events, Idaho Rally, a United States Rally Championship National event, and a few more regionals.
The CSCC has held 'test days' where teams have had the chance to test their cars and their driving on a closed stage three or four times a year. The great thing is that while there may be hundreds of events a year in Finland, none of us here are going to them. We all have the same half dozen events in the region each year - some travel east to do the rest of the Canadian Championship.
If you compare what we have for rallies with the EU, we'll loose every time. The size of our country is a killer and travel is a significant part of any team's budget. (in land area, Alberta is slightly larger than Ukraine and has less that 10% of the population)
While you won't find rally events every weekend, there is a good regional championship with some great roads (as long as we can still get permissions) and good competition.

hey Alex, this kind of fun is cool, but we can't do it on any rally stage, they think right away ,that is us , "crazy rally guys"
buy the older celica , that 1 is much stronger build, less hp but that can be helped , or an old wrx, there is a guy in Edmonton selling a caged st 185 ,
we spend a bunch of money to have fun, but if more peoples show up at the events and test days, could cost less
