I want to make new differential bushings out of Delrin. Any sources locally? I would need a very small amount. Maybe 4" diameter x 6" height.

Thanks

What about nylon, UHMW or better yet use PEEK that is the ticket.

If you want them made call Shawn at KC seals, 403-531-2690, hmmm CNC goodness.

Do you know what kind of rates he would charge for bushings?

Nylon will swell but I didn't think about UHMW. That should work as it is WAY cheaper than Delrin or other acetals. Haven't used PEEK.

Are you sure Nylon will swell?

I have yet to see a nylon bushing swell and I have seen many of them.

Neal ask me when you see me.

Pretty sure. Data sheet on Nylon says it absorbtion is about 5x that of Delrin or UHMW. I have read about Nylon swelling particularly in high humidity. Seeing that that area of the car gets a nice misting from my diff and also other cars might be best to stick with an acetal or UHMW.

Thanks

Well not sure if different grades of nylon are available but I have never seen it swell.

They are used as bushings in hydraulic cylinders and the tolerance is close so swelling would not be good, not sure if absortion is the same for oil and water but then again I use them in water cylinders as well with no problems or swelling.

So I am going to have to say they may absorb 5x more than UHMW but I guess it depends on what 5x is?

Now I'm not too familiar with the properties of all those different kinds of materials.  But wouldn't rubber swell more than Nylon anyways, thus being an upgrade? (assuming your bushings are rubber from factory.)

Mine are not rubber. Mine are delrin but as I am raising the rear subframe I need to make new bushings with an offset to account for tucking the subframe up higher.

Well then, my vote is for UHMW.

And it sounds cool when you talk to chicks, but get a price on PEEK as well just for fun.
