I'm late 30s, good driving record (I think 3 points), acquiring an early 90s E36 BMW. I've never bought insurance in Alberta, and it seems to be way different than BC. Which companies should I get quotes from?
Also, I'm bringing the car from BC. Any pitfalls to out-of-province inspection/certification/registration I should know about?

We've been with Canadian Direct for a few years, the rates and the service seem pretty good, you can get online quotes I think and save a little more, too. http://www.canadiandirect.com/I had been going to tell you to be prepared to be raped, but I imagine your insurance was in the Vancouver metro area before, so thanks to the high car-theft rates out there you may have already been paying rates similar to what you might get here.

I like ING for being cheap, and they have been great when needed.
as for OOP, you can get mad raped there.
feel free to bring it to VEX for OOP, 403.309.2258
some other guys may know some respectable OOP places

+1 on ING (now Intact) for being good on claims.

Dumb question but what is OOP! Also I would be very interested in your feedback Steve on the BC vs Alberta insurance experience. Never have had a claim since I came back to Canada 10 years I can't comment on service from my insurance company! I just keep paying and paying and paying! Any way I am with the old farts insurance company!

Our house, cars and motorcycles (before I sold them)...
Are all with "home for chrome" which is Dalton Timmis insurance. They have an office in Crowfoot by the BMW dealer.
403 241 2288
Haven't made a claim yet, but they wrote me a policy on a friday night when I told them I "might" be buying a car saturday. They emailed the temp slip and told me to call back monday and either pay or cancel.
I think that's good service.

Dumb question but what is OOP! Out Of Province inspection. I'm also with ING/Intact through Bow Valley Insurance Brokers and have had a couple claims (vandalism, no fault accident) and I am very pleased with how quickly they took care of me. I'm sure I could save a $100 a year going to another company, but the service when I've needed it makes the extra cost worth staying IMO.

I'm with Tracy, I've never had a claim either, just pay and pay, year after year. I'm late 30s, good driving record (I think 3 points), acquiring an early 90s E36 BMW. I've never bought insurance in Alberta, and it seems to be way different than BC. Which companies should I get quotes from? Is the said early '90s E36 BMW happen to be this? ^ That was from 2003 CNAC

Update: passed my OOP inspection yesterday. Learned a bunch of maintenance items that will need addressing. Gotta pick an insurance provider next.
Question: Canadian Direct said they wouldn't insure me when I told them my car was modified. Should I be saying the car is unmodified?

What kind of mods are we talking about? Unless the mods add significant value to the car it's usually not worth mentioning them as the increase in your premium would cancel out any benefit from getting the mods insured.

I can't give away all my secrets before the season even starts! Let's just say they are 95% suspension mods.
